Position Overview
As a Metal Fabricator, you'll manufacture structural steel components and assemblies used in electrical equipment by interpreting engineering drawings and safely operating fabrication and welding equipment. You'll work with a variety of materials while producing high-quality custom products built to exact customer specifications.
What You'll Do
Blueprint Interpretation & Layout
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Determine material layout and sequence of fabrication.
  • Verify measurements using precision measuring tools.
  • Interpret weld symbols and fabrication specifications.
  • Create templates, fixtures, and layouts as needed.
Fabrication & Welding
  • Assemble and fit structural steel components.
  • Perform MIG and Pulse MIG welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Tack and weld assemblies to engineering tolerances.
  • Repair and modify fabricated components when necessary.
  • Grind, bevel, straighten, cut, and finish fabricated parts.
Equipment Operation
Safely operate equipment including:
  • MIG welding equipment
  • Press brakes
  • Shears
  • Punch presses
  • Overhead cranes
  • Forklifts
  • Hoists
  • Cutting torches
  • Grinders
  • Drills
  • Hand and power tools

Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition and ensure proper storage at the end of each shift.

  • Install basic electrical components into fabricated enclosures when required.
  • Prepare components for finishing by washing, priming, or painting.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • High School Diploma or GED, plus 2 years welding fabrication experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to discern correct welding applications
  • Must be proficient in MIG welding
  • Essential "rigging" knowledge is necessary
  • Good math skills necessary in transferring print information to the fabrication process
  • Ability to read and interpret shop/engineering drawings
  • Arrive to work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions on time and as scheduled
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work
  • Frequently stand for prolonged periods, lifting/moving of up to 100 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, grasping, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling and climbing ladders
  • Able to fabricate and assemble metal buildings, products & parts
  • Ability and skill to effectively operate a wide range of equipment, hand and power tools, overhead crane, forklift, torches, brake shear, power saws, drills, punch press, etc.
