Are you a marketer who wants to make a difference in the 21st Century Church?
Does your skill set span precise and confident copy writing, video production and editing, and marketing communications across platforms, with the goal of delighting customers at the heart of what you do?
Would you thrive as part of a team that is collaborative, passionate, and flexible in its dynamic marketing of resources that enhance congregational life in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and beyond?
The Marketing Communications Specialist position on the Congregational Team at Augsburg Fortress Publishers may be just the job for you.
Augsburg Fortress Publishers (AFP) is a multimedia publishing ministry of the ELCA, composed of five imprints: Augsburg Fortress, Sparkhouse, Fortress Press, Beaming Books, and Broadleaf Books. We publish resources that support Christian worship, faith formation, spiritual growth, and academic study, and professional development. AFP strives to create an environment of inclusiveness, equity, and respect for all regardless of ability, age, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, nation of origin, race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. Individuals who are committed to contributing meaningfully to diversity and inclusion in publishing are encouraged to apply.
The Congregational Team, representing the Augsburg Fortress and Sparkhouse imprints, develops innovative resources for worship and music, Bible study, devotional life, and faith formation. This small, nimble team publishes and markets hundreds of resources each year.

The Marketing Communications Specialist executes day-to-day marketing and sales efforts for the Congregational Team, with a focus on customer-centered writing and video content creation. This role requires strong organization, problem resolution skills, flexibility, and collaboration across departments. Training and ongoing support are provided to ensure success in the role.
Key Responsibilities
  • Write, schedule, and send marketing emails to segmented congregational audiences
  • Support and optimize marketing copy across platforms
  • Produce audio and video content for social media, promotions, training, and customer education
  • Assist with webinar development and execution
  • Develop, brief, and manage print pieces for mailings and events
  • Collaborate with Marketing team colleagues to develop, execute, and support marketing plans focused on specific resources that meet customer needs
  • Work with the Design team to create design briefings, provide feedback, and track schedules at all routing stages
  • Help track schedules, contribute to annual marketing budgets, and support project workflows
  • Travel to 2-3 events annually to staff AFP booths
  • Provide administrative and other support as assigned

Desired Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • 2-3 years of marketing experience; new college graduates with standout internships/relevant college work study experience will be considered
  • Experience in a mainline Protestant congregational ministry setting as volunteer, staff member, or other role

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong, engaging writing skills tailored to customer needs
  • Clear and precise verbal communication skills
  • Fluency and creativity with content creation used for promotional videos and instructional videos
  • Experience with editing, excerpting, and uploading video to YouTube and Vimeo
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) is a plus; enthusiasm for using it is even better
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Experience with CRM systems (HubSpot), project management tools (Teamwork), and Microsoft 365, or demonstrated ability to learn new systems and software quickly
  • Highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with theological foundations and congregational life in the ELCA or other mainline Protestant denomination(s)

Salary and Location
The salary range for this position is $46,000-$50,000 annually, depending on qualifications and internal equity. This hybrid position is open to candidates living in the Twin Cities area and requires onsite work in the Minneapolis office 2-3 days per week.
