Salary: $22-$23 Per Hour

Desktop Publishing Specialist II


Position Summary:
The Desktop Publishing Specialist II creates, edits, and finalizes medium to complex technical publication documents supporting the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project teams and interface with Government or customer representatives as needed. Youll plan and organize projects with minimal supervision, ensuring high-quality, compliant documentation is delivered on schedule.


What Youll Do:
Prepare and produce technical publication documents following customer, Government, and company specifications
Create medium to complex electronic documents and templates using publishing software
Generate final documents for internal and customer reviews, identifying and correcting errors before submission
Maintain organized files, archives, and document naming according to established policies
Assist in planning and coordinating project activities and identify cost-saving techniques
Estimate effort required and meet or exceed production expectations
Participate in project meetings and provide daily or weekly status updates
Communicate project status with customers and internal teams
Understand and apply XML/SGML tagging, graphic file types, and document structures
Track and report individual metrics and trends
Support team members working on shared efforts and assist with training new staff when needed
Provide occasional back-up support to receptionist/front desk functions
Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned


What You Bring:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational certificate preferred
Associate degree in Desktop Publishing, Computer Science, English, or Art/Design preferred
23 years of experience in desktop publishing, XML/SGML coding, proofreading, or art/design
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Also ideal candidate would have Adobe FrameMaker and Arbortext.
Intermediate proficiency with publishing software (preferred)
Proven ability to create and apply XML/SGML tags Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and formatting skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple deadlines
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal and external partners
Ability to remain focused despite interruptions and maintain a high level of quality
Valid drivers license preferred


Work Environment:
General office setting using standard office equipment
Extended periods of sitting/standing may be required
Occasional overtime, weekend, or holiday work to meet deadlines
Occasional travel (less than 10%) by vehicle or airplane
