Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The position of Senior Engineer will work in general support of and with operations to focus on continual improvement and a portfolio of specific engineering projects for multiple Sunrock sites. The position is a visible professional position to Sunrock management, vendors, and all surrounding communities in which the company’s business is done. The position will assist in the organization, direction, coordination, and control the activities of the Sunrock engineering services function in order to deliver superior customer service, provide safe and stable operations, optimizing engineering efforts to ensure responsible management of company resources.

This position also has backup and project specific plant and mobile equipment operations responsibilities that include hands-on involvement in project and maintenance construction. This job requires the employee to be on call when necessary at all times to ensure issues are addressed in a rapid and error free manner. The role may work independently or within a team, practicing absolute confidentiality. Good judgment is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned and directed by senior management. The normal work hours are 7:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday and weekends as needed. Early starts and late evenings are common during peak season. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) maybe required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Complies with all safety policies, procedures, established safe practices, and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety and Health.
  2. Monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of all team members and proactively addresses deficits.
  3. Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22
  4. Assists in the development and oversight in the implementation of appropriate technical policies and practices throughout Sunrock as they pertain to engineering services function’s goals and responsibilities.
  5. Assists in the coordination of facility and quarry improvements from design through implementation with internal departments, outside vendors, county officials, and regulatory agencies.
  6. Reviews existing operations and makes recommendations to increase the efficiency and/or productivity of all projects in Associate as directed by your supervisor.
  7. Works in a hands-on manner to construct the approved plant construction or modifications.
  8. Understands and is capable of operating mobile equipment and plants as needed to back up existing operators and managers.
  9. Indirectly manages personnel as it relates to specific projects and operations responsibilities.
  10. Participates in the development of new technologies that supports service and facilities-related codes and standards.
  11. Examines, modifies, and adapts/converts existing and future documents and drawings, verifying they are in the most current version required to satisfy industry standard.
  12. Assists in completing financial analysis on projects and make recommendations on capital expenditures.
  13. Assists in the preparation of annual budgets for operations.
  14. Learns and utilizes all existing Sunrock engineering and design programs and equipment, including but not limited to AutoCAD, GPS land surveying software and equipment, and Aggflow aggregate plant flow simulation software.
  15. Recommends other engineering, design, and/or organizational programs to improve Associates and efficacy of the engineering services function and its accessibility by other departments.
  16. Manages project portfolio including but not limited to projects for mine and pit planning, infrastructure, phase organizational development, and alteration of corporate sites, and construction site development (including earth and rock moving).
  17. Assists with permitting and compliance related activities on occasion as directed by supervisor.
  18. Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  19. Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field with three (3) – five (5) years related experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  2. NCDOT Aggregate Sampling & Testing Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  4. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  5. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  6. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  7. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  8. Utilize complex computer operations (intermediate programming in 3rd and 4th generation languages, relational databases, and operating systems) and advanced features of software packages (AggFlow, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.)
  9. Prioritizes and organizes tasks and assignments.
  10. Handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The working environment will vary based on the indoor and outdoor production/construction environment. The working environment will be well-lit, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation. This role will also be exposed to outdoor working conditions to changing weather conditions (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.) The noise level in the work environment indoors is moderate. The noise level of the work environment outdoors is loud.
