How much do weekend welding jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 23, 2026, the average hourly pay for weekend welding in Michigan is $36.27, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $29.95 and $41.30 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is weekend welding?

Weekend welding jobs are positions where welders work primarily on Saturdays and Sundays, often to accommodate project deadlines, maintenance needs, or the schedules of clients who require after-hours service. These jobs can be found in construction, manufacturing, repair shops, or as part of emergency and on-call services. Weekend welding may offer higher hourly pay due to the non-traditional hours and sometimes provides more flexibility for individuals balancing other commitments during the week. The work typically involves joining metal parts, repairing equipment, or fabricating structures using various welding techniques. Employers may seek experienced welders who can work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend welder?

To thrive as a Weekend Welder, you need proficiency in welding techniques, blueprint reading, and knowledge of safety standards, typically supported by a high school diploma and welding certifications like AWS. Experience with welding machines, cutting tools, and safety equipment is essential. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication help ensure quality work and safety on the job. These skills and qualities are vital for producing safe, precise welds and maintaining productivity during weekend shifts.

What are the typical work schedules and expectations for weekend welding?

Weekend welding roles often require working Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, with schedules ranging from full 12-hour shifts to part-time hours based on employer needs. These positions are ideal for those seeking flexibility or supplemental income, but they may involve working independently or as part of a smaller crew compared to weekday shifts. Job seekers should be prepared for fast-paced environments, tight deadlines, and the possibility of overtime to meet production goals. Effective communication and self-management are key, as weekend welders may have less direct supervision but are expected to maintain high safety and quality standards.

Common Search/ComparisonWeekend Welding vs Weekend Pipefitting

Weekend Welding and Weekend Pipefitting share similar work environments and certifications, often overlapping in industrial settings. Welding focuses on joining metals through various techniques, while pipefitting involves installing and maintaining piping systems. Both roles are essential in construction and industrial maintenance, with certifications and skills that complement each other. The choice depends on your specific interests in metal fabrication or piping systems.

Do weekend welders work on the weekends?

Weekend welders often work on weekends, especially if they are employed in industries that require 24/7 operations or have flexible schedules. Many welding jobs are project-based or contract roles, which can include weekend shifts depending on the employer's needs and deadlines.
