Job description

Description This position is responsible for participating in the installation, maintenance and repair of the water distribution system. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of water services. Job Domains RESPONSIBILITY: Requires close cooperation and interaction with the Water System Field Superintendent, Field Crew Lead, Water Works field office staff, Water Works Heavy Equipment Operators, and the general public.

Responsible for, but not limited to the following: Maintain and repair water lines. Install new water services and meters. Locate and repair water leaks.

Assist in the repair of fire hydrants. Replace and repair meter boxes and lids as needed. Replace and repair broken valve boxes.

Maintain and repair City buildings and facilities. Maintain and repair well houses. Maintain and repair water meters and meter heads.

Performs cuts in streets and pavement to make repairs or install new lines or water appurtenances. Disinfects water mains to ensure the safety of the water system and public health when completing installations or making repairs as assigned. Assist in locating water lines as requested.

Communicate and interact with customers effectively and professionally. Assist customers in the resolution of water related complaints/issues and refer, when necessary, to other appropriate staff. Safely operate a motor vehicle in compliance with all regulations.

Properly maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment. Must maintain regular and timely attendance in accordance with your assigned schedule. Be on-call after business hours to include weekends and holidays (the on-call schedule is a rotating schedule).

Support the relationship between the City of Enterprise and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens and City staff; maintain confidentiality of customer and City information. Represent the City of Enterprise in a professional manner at all times. Adhere to the highest standards of ethical business conduct and compliance by acting lawfully, ethically, honestly, and professionally in the performance of job duties at all times, as well as remaining compliant with the City of Enterprise policy and procedures as it relates to job functions.

Perform other duties as assigned. ACCOUNTABILITY: Water System Field Superintendent and Field Crew Lead Knowledge, Skills and Abilities High School diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of related work experience preferred or sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.

Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of water system maintenance principles. Ability to properly and safely operate job-related tools, equipment, and assigned vehicle.

Able to be on-call after business hours to include weekends and holidays as needed. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must pass background, MVR check, and drug testing.

Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of water system maintenance principles. Ability to properly and safely operate job-related tools, equipment, and assigned vehicle.

Basic understanding of simple geography relating to City streets. Able to be on-call after business hours to include weekends and holidays as needed. Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers. Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to act with discretion, tact, and professionalism in all situations. Ability to work in various weather conditions. Ability to work independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively.
