    Detroit Salt is a historic organization with a rich legacy spanning over 100 years, originating in 1906 as a salt producer for leather and food processing. Since 1997, Detroit Salt has supplied local and national customers with tons of rock salt and premium ice melter formulations. The fruit of this labor is apparent in the salt city 1,200 feet beneath the city of Detroit, spanning more than 1,500 acres and containing over 100 miles of underground roads. As a member of the team at Detroit Salt, you will contribute to maintaining our company's efficient mining process and enriching our workforce.

    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • This position is responsible for the packaging line to perform with consistent fluidity, so the packaging department can achieve set quotas.
    • This position is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining the packaging line to operate properly and consistently. Being able to diagnose and find solutions quickly to keep production running safely and to quality standards consistently.
    • Supporting the supervisor of packaging to assist, guide, and train packaging department members to accurately package, operate equipment and quality check packages. Support the team's understanding and ability to resolve issues of equipment operation and quality of the bagged product.
    • Maintaining consistency of quality of packaging before exporting product from facility.
    • Clear understanding of workflow throughout the bagging facility.
    • Be prepared to change technique and instruction based on variables; color additives, chemical additives and operating conditions.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment following set in place procedures.
    • Work in a timely manner and strive to increase productivity.
    • Contribute to instructed cleaning, sanitizing, and organization in the rooms.
    • Responsible for the packaging line maintenance.
    • Monitor, confront, and repair any noticeable packaging line issues.
    • Meet daily quotas.
    • Maintain a culture of professionalism.
    • Other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to assisting other departments to help facilitate the additional and/or supplemental work.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    • High school diploma/ GED required.
    • Two years’ experience maintaining the operation of a packaging line.
    • Operational expertise in running a packaging line with mechanics, and electricians. Mechanical and electrical frontline troubleshooting background.
    • HMI and PLC line experience.
    • Background in pneumatics actuated packaging machine operations.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
    • Must be familiar with electrical codes and procedures.
    • Must be a self-starter who shows the ability to find work when it is not directly pointed out.
    • Experience with robotic operations and repair.
    • Experience with maintenance and repair of complex automated machines conveyors, robotics, packaging equipment, etc.
    • Will be required to work on all aspects of automation; electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
    • Demonstrate ability to consistently meet productivity and performance requirements.
    • Demonstrates high attention to detail.
    • Demonstrates professional and respectful demeanor towards others.
    • Demonstrates respectful verbal and written communication capability.
    • Ability to cover other shifts and weekends as needed.
    • Ability to work overtime.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
    • Must be able to wear all proper PPE including steel-toed shoes, hard hat, and safety glasses.
    • Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse workplace and outside year-round.
    • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50+ lbs. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.
    • Must be able to pass physical and drug test.
