Position Summary:


Assists with medications and maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations and the standards of HRA.ย 


Essential Functions:

  • Checks each of the six (6) rights of medication administration three (3) different times: (1) When the medication is taken out of the med cart or cabinet; (2) Immediately before assisting with the medication; (3) Immediately after assisting with the medication.ย 
  • Assists with medications to residents according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR)ย 
  • Documents clearly and accurately on the MOR after a medication is taken or given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, in accordance with policyย 
  • Maintains a neat, clean, organized med cart/cabinet and restocks as neededย 
  • Provides residents with any treatments required as part of their individual service planย 
  • Promotes and protects the rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatmentย 
  • Answers and responds immediately to resident callsย 
  • Respects the resident's right to refuse medication and/or treatmentย 
  • Explains to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with or administering the medicationย 
  • Observes the resident for any adverse reaction to the medication and reports to the DRC and/or supervisor immediatelyย 
  • Reports any and all medication errors honestly and immediatelyย 
  • Seeks assistance and advice from supervisor immediately if there are any doubts or questions when assisting with or administering medications or treatmentsย 
  • Responds to on-the-job injuries in accordance with policyย 
  • Notifies supervisor of any concerns or questions presented by the resident's family member(s)ย 
  • Adheres to universal precautions and all other infection control guidelinesย 
  • Disposes infectious and/or potentially infectious waste according to OSHA regulationsย 
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior in all interactions with residents, families, staff and other visitors to the communityย 
  • Performs specific work duties as assigned by supervisorย 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency proceduresย 
  • Meets or exceeds health standards for appearance, sanitation and hygieneย 
  • The ability to work in a safe and alert mannerย 
  • The ability to take ownership for associate's safety and the safety of the residentsย 
  • Must disclose any medication that might impair associate's ability to perform the job safely or competently.ย 

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Attends required community meetings and participates Life Enrichment activities when ableย 
  • Completes all required courses in adherence with HRA Universityย 
  • Is prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular, predictable basisย 
  • Becomes familiar and understands how to report a missing person using the Safe Return program or equivalentย 
  • All associates are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all community residentsย 

Requirements

Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent with state specific training required for the positionย 
  • Must obtain valid Continuing Education credits as required by the state (if applicable)ย 
  • Minimum of one (1) year experienceย 
  • Experience in a long-care community and/or geriatric nursing preferredย 
  • Experience in emergency care and first-aid preferredย 
  • Good working knowledge of Medication Observation Record (MOR)ย 
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contactsย 
  • Clerical and typing skills including typing, data entry, filing, etc. requiredย 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook software preferredย 
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology preferredย 
  • Able to make independent decisionsย 
  • Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizensย
