Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position in an acute care hospital treating all age groups.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting with a Level II Trauma designation
  • 180-bed facility with average daily census of 130 patients
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12 hours, 1800-0630)
  • Weekend rotation every other or every third weekend depending on department need
  • On-call requirement during December through April
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Treats all age groups from neonatal through geriatric with a wide range of diagnoses
  • Assists with bronchoscopies on occasion
  • Performs nighttime and daytime SAT/SBT responsibilities
  • Responds to Emergency Department for codes, traumas, and severe respiratory distress
  • Level II Nursery with sporadic bubble CPAP and invasive mechanical ventilation
  • Increased HFNC utilization for pediatric patients during RSV season
  • Uses Drager V500 Ventilators, EV 300 Bipaps, V60 Bipaps, ResMed Tabletop PAP Devices, Volara (metaneb), Vest therapy, Aerobika, Breath Actuated Nebulizers, and Aerogen equipment
  • Cerner charting system used
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Active RRT credential required
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • State license required if applicable
  • Active Illinois license required at time of application (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Required experience in Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Pediatrics
  • Preferred experience in NICU, PICU, and patient transports
  • Required airway management skills including ET tube/suctioning, extubation, intubation assist, nasal and oral airway placement/suctioning, pulmonary hygiene, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy care
  • Required experience caring for patients with ARDS, aspiration, COVID, cystic fibrosis, fresh tracheostomy, and pneumonia
  • Required medication administration experience including Albuterol, Atrovent, Bicarbonate, Combivent, Flovent, inhaled steroids, Isuprel, Mucomyst, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Terbutaline Sulfate, Tobramycin, and Xopenex
  • Required experience with aerosol setups, MDI, and Medihaler delivery systems
  • Required experience with cold, hand held, heated, and trach collar nebulizers
  • Required oxygen therapy skills including bag and mask, ET tube, HFNC, and trach collar
  • Required ventilator management skills including BiPap, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Required neonatal/pediatric skills including bubble CPAP, capillary and umbilical blood gases, CPAP/Nasal CPAP/BIPAP, IMV/SIMV, intubation assist, and pressure/volume ventilator management
  • Required experience caring for infants/children with RSV and transient tachypnea of the newborn
  • Preferred experience with high-risk delivery assistance and neonatal inter-departmental transports
  • Preferred experience caring for infants/children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, near drowning, and respiratory distress syndrome
  • Required professional skills including ABG interpretation, chest physiotherapy, and drawing arterial blood gases
  • Community hospital and Level I/II trauma experience preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • SSN and date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide respiratory care to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric across multiple units
  • Work as part of a hospital-wide respiratory care team supporting critical care, emergency, and pediatric areas
  • Navy blue scrubs preferred, though any solid color is acceptable if navy is unavailable
  • Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
  • First day of assignment includes virtual, at-home orientation with required completion of assigned modules by 4:00 PM CST
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Requested time off ideally limited to no more than 5 days
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
