Job Description/Summary:

The Medical Assistant (Clinical)

  • Provides comprehensive patient care for adult and pediatric patients in the areas of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
  • Supports physicians, providers, and management with clinical, clerical, and organizational tasks related to patient care, including infusion services.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide clinical care, including skin tests, patch tests, medication administration, steroid shots, food challenges, spirometry, and FeNO pulmonary function testing, lab draws, vaccines, and patient monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation, consent forms, and charts; communicate clinical concerns to providers.
  • Support patient flow, scheduling, pre-registration, insurance verification, and cross-site coverage for infusion and shot clinics.
  • Manage supplies and equipment and keep exam rooms stocked.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, cross-training, and continuous improvement of clinical and risk management processes.
  • Deliver professional, compassionate care and effectively communicate with patients, families, staff, and external contacts.
  • Perform emergency procedures as needed and respond to urgent situations promptly.
  • Report misconduct or unusual activities and assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Flexibility to travel between sites as needed (we currently just have one location in Birmingham.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by lead staff and management to make operations effecient for coworkers and patients.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Clinical knowledge of patient care operations, infection control, safety standards, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Familiarity with billing, insurance, and medical coding
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard office equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and in compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance to ensure continuity of patient care and office operations.

    • College-level courses

    • Prior knowledge of the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology specialty
    • Prior experience with skin prick testing, patch testing, pulmonary function testing
    • 2 years of experience in a Physician's office
    • Prior knowledge of eClinicalWorks EHR
  • Preferred Registration / License / Certification
    • Medical Assistant Certification
