SRF is dedicated to growth in Chicago and this position will be crucial to our Strategic Vision Operational Strategy: Windy City Momentum. Our dynamic and growing Traffic Engineering Design Group is seeking a full-time Traffic Engineer to support a variety of transportation, traffic, and ITS engineering projects. This position is open in our Chicago, IL office with the opportunity to work in a hybrid model. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in traffic engineering while also supporting the planning, design, and delivery of transportation technology and electrical infrastructure projects.


Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and develop engineering staff to support continued growth of the group.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients across multiple disciplines.
  • Develop project deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, estimates, and utility coordination documentation.
  • Responsibilities may include working as an extension of agency staff in agency offices as part of on-call contracts.
  • Development of conceptual, preliminary, and final transportation designs, including:
  • Traffic signal design
  • Signing and pavement markings design
  • Construction staging and work zone traffic control
  • Vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle detour signing
  • Transit station amenities design
  • Fiber and network design
  • Intersection control evaluations
  • Signal and roundabout feasibility studies
  • Transportation Management Plans
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, traffic/transportation engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of related experience in traffic engineering, traffic studies, ITS, and/or transportation technology.
  • Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record to travel to work sites and meetings as needed.
  • Ability to lead projects, manage technical tasks, and mentor staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CADD platforms such as Open Road Designer or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with traffic engineering software, ITS/CAV systems, and/or transportation technologies,
  • Experience developing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) preferred.

Salary Range: $107,100 - $126,000


Compensation is determined by various factors, including education, experience, skills, job location, internal equity, market analysis, and specific qualifications relevant to the role.
