Job description

Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Trades & Custodial Manager and the Trades Specialist, the Trades Assistant performs construction and maintenance of District physical assets.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of shop and office spaces, restrooms, and grounds areas.
  • Assist Trades Specialists with repairs of all aspects of the District buildings and facilities.
  • Complete room set-up and tear-down to accommodate scheduled activities including recreation programs, meetings, special events, and rentals.
  • Install engineered wood fiber on park playground surfaces.
  • Serve on the team that installs and paints District signage.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Gather information necessary for the preparation of reports, proposals, and budgets.
  • Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate a variety of equipment and motor vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks and ability to learn methods, practices, use and operation of equipment and tools used in general maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to understand operator's manuals and ability to read and interpret drawings.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.

Special Considerations:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules including weekends.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 30 lbs. on a daily basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 30 lbs.
  • Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated machines and equipment.
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
  • Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.
  • Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
