YOUR DAY-TO-DAY AS OUR TOOLMAKER:

You'll typically work from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Your main focus will be on accurately building, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and specialized manufacturing equipment. You'll read and follow blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, and machining specifications to produce highly precise parts that meet tight tolerances. Since you'll often be working independently, precision, efficiency, and troubleshooting skills are vital. As you work, you'll maintain accurate records and set-up sheets.

You'll be responsible for properly setting up the CNC and manual machining equipment (lathes, grinders, hand tools, etc.) before accurately producing, assembling, and finishing the tools. When the tools are ready, you'll inspect the finished products with precision measurement devices (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.) to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy. You'll also diagnose issues with tools and perform the correct repairs to get them production-ready. We're always aiming to improve and do better, and you'll play a part in that by determining the most efficient machining sequences, performing root-cause analysis on issues, and supporting improved tooling and manufacturing processes.

Toolmaker Requirements:

  • Experience working with CAD drawings
  • Experience using precision measurement tools
  • Strong proficiency in CNC and manual machining
  • Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of mechanical relationships, tolerances, and fits
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • High levels of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly communicate with engineers, machinists, and production teams
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., perform repetitive tasks with few breaks, and follow all safety protocols
  • Preferred - CAM programming experience
  • Preferred - completion of a tool and die apprenticeship, a journeyman certification, or equivalent experience
  • Preferred - 3+ years of experience in a tool room or precision machining environment
