Job description

Job Overview: We are seeking a full-time, bilingual (Spanish speaking) Ophthalmology Scribe with 2 to 3 years of experience (required) for a busy practice in the metropolitan area. This individual is responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. The primary goal of the ophthalmic scribe is to increase the physician's efficiency and productivity in the clinic setting. The scribe must be able to anticipate physician needs, communicate clearly to patients and staff members, and effectively multitask to facilitate clinical flow.

This is an in-person position. Training will take place in the Rockville office.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Record interactions: Accompany the provider during patient visits and record information into the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Accurately and thoroughly document ophthalmic exams and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.
  • List all appropriate diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as directed by the physician.
  • Update patient information: Keep patient histories current and ensure that charts are accurate.
  • Assist with administrative: Handle phone calls, handle medication queries, retrieve lab reports, and fill out paperwork.
  • Provide patient support: As directed by the physician, instruct patients and/or family members on self-care and follow-up.
  • Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities determined by the office manager, team lead, and doctor(s).


Qualifications & Skills

  • Two to three years of experience as an Ophthalmic or Medical Scribe is required (certified preferred)
  • Excellent computer knowledge and typing abilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and consistently communicate professionally
  • Great active listening skills


Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Computer literacy with fast typing abilities (50+ wpm)
  • Ability to work in dimly light setting
  • Ability to travel to satellite locations as needed
  • Ability to work Monday- Friday and weekends
  • Bilingual (Spanish speaking preferred)
