Risk Consulting – Senior Full-Stack Developer

Location: Chicago, IL
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite per Week
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 6 Months with Possible Extension
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Experience Level: 6–10 Years
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Start Date: ASAP
Interview Process: Two Rounds
Portfolio: A portfolio or examples of previous development work are required for consideration.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full-Stack Developer to join a Risk Consulting team supporting the development, migration, and enhancement of client-facing technology and custom data analytics solutions.

This position will design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications using the MERN stack, SQL, and AWS. The developer will work on client-focused solutions involving application development, data analytics, system migrations, and ongoing technical support.

The ideal candidate has 6–10 years of full-stack development experience, strong JavaScript and SQL expertise, hands-on AWS experience, and the ability to independently deliver high-quality technical solutions while collaborating effectively with a broader team. Experience within insurance, claims, or risk-related environments is beneficial but not required.

Candidates must provide a portfolio, GitHub profile, or examples of previous development work that demonstrate relevant full-stack development experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently design, develop, code, test, and debug full-stack applications and technical modules using the MERN stack and SQL.
  • Develop solutions using MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js, and JavaScript.
  • Build and maintain SQL databases, including complex queries, data structures, and database designs.
  • Support application and data migrations while maintaining data integrity and system performance.
  • Develop custom data analytics solutions based on client and business requirements.
  • Deploy and maintain applications within AWS, utilizing services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
  • Translate client and business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Meet established project goals and timelines while working with limited guidance from lead developers.
  • Collaborate with developers, consultants, and other stakeholders to develop and communicate project plans.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve coding, application, and performance issues.
  • Provide technical support to clients and internal teams, including assistance with escalated issues.
  • Analyze recurring technical issues and recommend opportunities to improve existing systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance or mentorship to analysts and other developers.
  • Manage source code using Git, including branching, merging, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Follow software development best practices related to code quality, testing, security, documentation, and maintainability.
  • Produce clear and thorough technical documentation for applications, processes, and development work.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve development efficiency and system performance.
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools when appropriate to improve programming efficiency and accelerate development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 6–10 years of professional full-stack development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with the MERN stack, including:
    • MongoDB
    • Express.js
    • React.js
    • Node.js
  • Strong JavaScript development experience.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including complex query development and database design.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and application deployment.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative source-control workflows.
  • Experience supporting application, platform, or data migrations.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage development assignments with limited supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Previous experience within insurance, claims, risk consulting, or a related industry.
  • Experience developing client-facing technology solutions.

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and development automation.
  • Experience with TypeScript or additional modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve developer productivity.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on full-stack developer with strong MERN, JavaScript, SQL, and AWS expertise who can independently take technical assignments from requirements through delivery. They are comfortable working directly with clients and internal stakeholders, solving complex development and data challenges, supporting migrations, and documenting their work thoroughly.

They are collaborative and communicative while also being self-sufficient and comfortable working with limited oversight. Experience supporting insurance or claims-related solutions would be an added advantage.
