Ohio Substitute Teacher Services (OSTS) offers substitute teachers the opportunity to work in a variety of school settings throughout Ohio. Substitute teachers play an important role in a student's education. We assist in placing substitute teachers in vacant positions to facilitate a student's education in the absence of their teacher. OSTS is proud to support Warrensville Heights City Schools in the employment of substitute teachers.
If you're a retired teacher looking to step back in the classroom, a new college graduate, or someone interested in becoming a substitute teacher for the first time - we are eager to meet you! Responsibilities

  1. Follows lesson plans: Substitute teachers are responsible for following the lesson plans provided by the absent classroom teacher to ensure continuity of education.
  2. Maintains a neat and orderly classroom: Creating an organized and welcoming classroom environment is essential for a productive learning atmosphere.
  3. Ensures student supervision: Substitute teachers must never leave students unattended in the classroom to maintain their safety.
  4. Keeps students safe and engaged: It's important to keep students engaged in the learning process and maintain a safe classroom environment.
  5. Monitors student progress: Keep a close eye on students' progress and assist where needed.
  6. Maintains existing classroom management and discipline procedures: Consistency with existing classroom management and discipline procedures is crucial.
  7. Understands school policy and procedures: Knowledge of school policies and procedures helps maintain order and safety.
  8. Provides written feedback: Offer feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding the day's activities and student behavior.
  9. Maintains accurate attendance records: Keep accurate records of student attendance.

Requirements

  1. Criminal record check: Applicants must have a clean criminal record that allows for public school employment, verified through FBI and BCI background checks dated within 365 days of hire.
  2. Bachelor's Degree: Hold at least a Bachelor's Degree in any field.
  3. Professional references: Provide three professional references.
  4. Teaching License: Either obtain an Ohio Department of Education Substitute Teacher License or possess a Teaching License.
  5. Training: Complete SubSkills Online training (if applicable contingent after hire) and submit all mandatory professional development modules and activities using PublicSchoolWorks as a platform.
  6. Effective communication: Communicate accurately and effectively, both in writing and orally.
  7. Punctuality: Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual.
  8. Professional conduct: Adhere to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
