Job description

At Slipstream, we provide managed solutions with a strategic consulting and global leadership management approach, exclusively designed for emerging pharma and biotech organizations. Our solutions free clients from the demands of internal IT and allow them to rapidly advance their mission.
We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer who can effectively support and assist with the company's technology strategy and daily operations. The Systems Engineer will provide operational support for maintaining the company servers and network configurations. This is a cloud-focused organization so this role will require experience with current cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure Active Directory and Azure virtual servers as well as having the ability to work with existing managed service providers. He or she will ensure systems are compliant, supported, and achieve maximum value for the company.
Day-to-day tasks:
  • Solve business problems by performing analysis, preparing recommendation(s), and providing project leadership/management for successful implementation of relevant technology, business process modifications, and/or enhancements
  • Design, configure, deploy, and maintain servers, storage, and network solutions, for both on-premises and cloud environments
  • Monitor, measure, and optimize the performance of all network hardware, storage, compute, software, telephony, cabling, and data communications connections ensuring maximum uptime
  • Identify, analyze, diagnose, research, and resolve technical problems for individuals and groups in an efficient manner; recognizing the proper course of action to take, communicating, and escalating severe issues as appropriate
  • Provide escalated support for the Service Desk, Level II, and Senior Network Administrators and perform tactical problem resolution as required
  • Assist with the implementation of security initiatives and cybersecurity-related projects
  • Communicate highly technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Develop and maintain network security, data integrity, and file system security processes and procedures
  • Perform knowledge transfers among team members by preparing and maintaining documentation for networks, systems, processes, procedures, written instructions, and solutions to problems
  • Monitor, maintain, and ensure the integrity of all system and infrastructure-related backup processes
  • Maintain knowledge of developments in relevant technologies and their use in the industry, making recommendations when appropriate
  • Provide onsite infrastructure support 5 days a week within the Durham office locations
  • Provide technical support for weekly company and department events
  • Available to work after hours and weekends as required
  • Assist onsite technicians with complex technical issues
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the supervisor
  • Excellent time management ability to prioritize queues, projects, and other assignments
  • Strong team player working on both shared and individual assignments
  • All other duties as assigned

Key Responsibilities:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience supporting servers and networking information systems and services in a corporate environment, preferably within the Life Sciences industry
  • Bachelors' Degree in business or technology discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of VMware, Cisco Meraki, Firewalls, Microsoft Active Directory, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience in network, server, and storage configurations
  • Skill in project and resource management
  • Skill in planning, managing, and delivering of technical solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and will be an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, both in a leadership role and as a contributing member of the company
  • Experience with regulatory guidelines and managing environments containing regulated systems
  • WAP, network "heatmap", and WiFi troubleshooting.
  • Experience with SD-WAN and working with ISP carriers.
