Job Description:
Summary:
The Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room is responsible for providing safe and effective patient care. The Surgical Tech works under the direction of the RN, assisting in nursing care and preparation of surgical patient by performance of routine or delegated duties. Responsible for proper room set up, proficient in sterile technique, sets up sterile field with proper instrumentation related to the procedure, assists the surgeon during the case, counts sponges, sharps and instruments in accordance with policy. Assists with room turnover in an efficient manner at the end of all cases. This position will demonstrate competency in the care of patients of all age groups. Must be able to take call and/or work weekends as needed.
Requirements:
High School Graduate or equivalent, and must be a graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program and successfully complete the certifying exam. If the candidate has not completed an accredited surgical program, prior surgical tech experience may be substituted for such program if hired before May of 2007 (TN) or October 2022 (VA). Experience of greater than six months as an LPN or ORT (certified) is preferred. RNs and LPNs may also function in this role.
