JOB LOCATION: Pojoaque Supermarket
REPORTS TO: Store Manager
DEPARTMENT: Deli
FLSA STATUS: This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE (DAYS/HRS PER WEEK): TBD. Supermarket operates 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
JOB PURPOSE: Provides excellent customer service to deli customers through food preparation and interaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Fill and record customer orders, and compute bills using an electronic cash register
  • Accept payment from customers and make changes as necessary
  • Prepare daily food items using proper safety precautions and sanitary measures
  • Select food items from serving or storage areas and place them in dishes, on serving trays, or in takeout containers
  • Relay food orders to cooks as needed
  • Clean and organize eating, service, and kitchen areas
  • Notify kitchen personnel of shortages or special orders
  • Communicate with customers regarding orders, comments, and complaints

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
  • Experience in fast food customer service helpful
  • Knowledge of food preparation, handling, and presentation helpful
  • Interest in excellent guest services
  • Ability to handle a variety of customer requests and personalities
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must be people oriented
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good math skills
  • Previous experience in fast food preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Deli setting in a supermarket; Shift work; Required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Standing/Walking, 100% up to 4 hours at a time
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Exposure to heat and smoke from stoves
  • Exposure to some cleaning chemicals
  • Required to use and operate kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Must follow safety precautions and requirements when operating or using equipment, utensils, and chemicals
