What is a weekend student athletic trainer?

Weekend Student Athletic Trainers are students, often in college or high school athletic training programs, who assist certified athletic trainers during weekends. They help provide medical care to athletes at practices, games, and events, including first aid, injury assessment, and rehabilitation support. Their duties typically include preparing supplies, taping athletes, assisting with treatments, and documenting injuries under supervision. Weekend shifts are common due to the high volume of athletic events during those times. This role offers valuable hands-on experience for students pursuing careers in sports medicine or athletic training.

Familiarity with tools such as athletic tape, rehabilitation equipment, and injury documentation systems is often required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure athlete safety, effective injury management, and seamless coordination with coaches and medical staff during weekend events.

Being adaptable and proactive in a fast-paced environment will help ensure success in this role.
