BHS Workforce is seeking a travel nurse RN ED - Emergency Department for a travel nursing job in Phoenix, Arizona.

  • Guaranteed: 36 hours/week
  • Weekends: 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
  • Holidays: Based on unit needs
  • Trauma Level: Level 1
  • Charting: Cerner
  • Patient ratio: About 1:4

🚨 Must-Haves
  • 2 years ER experience
  • At least 6 months Level 1 Trauma experience

  • Must pass the DYS exam before accepting
    • 2 attempts allowed
    • If failed, cannot be submitted for 6 months
  • Must pass a Day 1 orientation exam
  • Must be able to read telemetry/heart rhythms
  • 50-mile radius rule: Driver's license is used to verify distance; include it with submission
  • Travel nurses must have their own vehicle

TNCC/ATCN preferred. ENPC cannot substitute for PALS.

🏥 Unit Details
  • ED has 36 acute beds + 54 subacute beds
  • 6 trauma bays, but travelers don't work in them
  • 2 charge RNs
  • 4 PCTs/sitters
  • RT and pharmacy available 24/7
  • At least 2 physicians in-house, sometimes up to 8
  • 88,000 patients/year — approximately 250–300 patients/day
  • Common cases: trauma, burns, cardiac emergencies, spinal cord injuries, TBI, and psychiatric patients
  • Pediatric trauma patients are transferred out
🔄 Floating

You may be floated between 4 ER locations:

  • St. Joseph's Main
  • St. Joseph's Westgate
  • Litchfield Park Free-Standing ER
  • Glendale Free-Standing ER

Locations are roughly 30 minutes apart, and you could be floated during your shift.

🧪 Skills/Orientation

Travelers must complete a pass/fail SIM lab, including:

  • Foley catheter insertion
  • Central-line dressing changes

ED nurses do:

  • Foley insertion
  • Port-a-cath insertion instead of central-line dressing

Sterile technique is very important. Nurses have been terminated for breaking the sterile field.

  • Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
❌ Cancellation

Hospital can cancel up to:

  • 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment
  • 3 shifts for assignments shorter than 13 weeks

This is a long-term Level 1 Trauma ER night assignment requiring 2 years ER experience + 6 months Level 1 Trauma experience, BLS/ACLS/PALS, Cerner experience, and strong trauma/critical-care skills. You need your own vehicle, must meet the 50-mile rule, pass the DYS exam and orientation testing, and be comfortable floating between 4 ER locations.
