Job description

Job Overview:

Pay Range: $24.43hr - $26.00hr

Requirement/Must Have:

  • Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to float to different locations based on staffing needs including Columbia, Ellicott City, and Elkridge.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
  • Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination.
  • Update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection such as urine or fecal in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all physician orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers.
  • Follow specific protocols for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
