Job description

Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Director, Phlebotomists are responsible for collecting specimens for diagnostic, donation, or transfusion purposes and handling them as required by regulations to ensure their integrity and accurate results. Shifts available is 7p-7a and weekends. 



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs venipunctures (using syringe, butterfly, and evacuated tube methods), heel sticks, finger sticks, urine, and other specimen collections.
  • Ensures collections meet volume requirements and test specifications.
  • Processes specimens and prepares them for transportation and laboratory testing (labeling vials, accurately matching specimens to patients, etc).
  • Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing.
  • Ensures specimen processing is timely and specimen integrity is maintained.
  • Ensures specimens are stored appropriately for future analysis.
  • Resolves ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting appropriate individuals for further clarification. 
  • Assesses patient needs, reviews patient history, and determines reason(s) for drawing blood.
  • Provides diagnostic notes to physicians and/or other medical staff as needed.
  • Takes orders directly from providers as needed.
  • Maintains medical records. 
  • Cleans, maintains, and calibrates laboratory equipment.
  • Orders supplies as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested



Job Qualifications:

Education/Qualification Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Phlebotomy Certification in the State of Georgia (preferred but not required)
Competition of Phlebotomy Certification Program


Experience:
2 years of lab and/or phlebotomy experience preferred.


Language Skills:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages preferred.
