Job description


JOB DESCRIPTION
The Total Industrial Engineer supports the plant's leadership in achieving financial and operational targets. Leads cross-functional team to implement continuous improvement activities following TPS principles.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish and expand TPS activity to visualize production progress and improve GENBA management throughout kaizen.
  • Develop and implement KAIZEN plans to eliminate waste based on JIT techniques to improve safety, quality, productivity, and profitability.
  • Introduce JIT tools and TPS principles from the design phase of product and processes to realize quick target achievement and future kaizen potential.
  • Challenge and identify areas to kaizen the job's processes and systems.
  • Develop kaizen leaders in the plant to increase TPS knowledge throughout the organization.
  • Promote and initiate TPS learning through one-on-one coaching and teaching.
  • Work with project partners to move projects through the project's life cycle while verifying and validating impact and results.
  • Create and revisit Standardized Work documents to meet production areas' KPIs.
  • Design manufacturing processes by visualizing the material and information flow of products.
  • Manage multiple different projects deadlines and deliverables.
  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement training on different TPS concepts.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and drive implementation of kaizen.
  • Identify areas of need to eliminate waste, improve efficiency and reduce lead time.
  • Develop and design tools, jigs, flow racks, and other improvement items to resolve manufacturing problems and improve PR (Production Ratio)
  • Partner with production leaders and operators to generate and implement kaizen ideas.
  • Lead through influence to implement own cost reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and prepare presentations to all levels of management including executive monthly Excellent Factory meeting
  • Write and present A3 reports summarizing completed projects.
  • Periodic training and benchmarking trips to affiliated companies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or 8 years of engineering experience.
  • High motivation and energy towards continuous improvement.
  • Must be flexible to change projects and have the ability to multi-task as priorities change.
  • Be flexible with working hours, as needed, to support project coverage and base month's activities, including weekends periodically.
  • Will often be involved in multiple projects at the same time and will need to prioritize.
  • Must possess time study skills for line balancing and bottleneck identification. Ability to apply standardized work based on the environment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) and AutoCAD.
  • Self-directed with good organizational and communication skills.
  • Analytical ability to study current systems, identify problems, create improvement plans, and influence management to implement proposed solutions.

PREFERENCES
Prefer candidates to have an understanding of lean manufacturing and have the ability to apply these concepts to all applications including production, warehouse, and the supply chain. Experience with simulation software is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job you may be asked to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift or carry component parts weighing up to 35 pounds-lifting parts in excess of 35 pounds with a lift assist, work on the production line for short periods of time, use hands to handle or feel parts, reach with hand and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear, use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, frequent phone use and typing. The work environment will vary from an open office setting to a production environment.
