Familiarity with tools like Git, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP), and Reddit's technology stack is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, effective remote communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills, especially when working independently on weekends. These skills and qualities ensure you can efficiently contribute to codebases, address production issues, and collaborate asynchronously to support Reddit’s continuous operations.

As a Weekend Software Engineer at Reddit, you’ll primarily work during weekends, often on critical maintenance, incident response, or project sprints that require off-peak deployment. Collaboration is largely remote and asynchronous, leveraging tools like Slack, GitHub, and Jira to communicate with team members and share updates. You may interact closely with on-call engineers, site reliability teams, and occasionally product managers to ensure smooth handoffs and fast resolution of urgent issues. This schedule offers flexibility but also requires strong self-motivation and proactive communication skills to stay aligned with the broader engineering team.
