Program Summary
GCCS-J is the DoDโ€™s Joint Command and Control system of record, delivering a fused, real-time operational picture to commanders and warfighters. The modernization effort emphasizes cloud-native software engineering, microservices, advanced data ingestion and synchronization, improved data models, and enhanced user experience to support JADC2-aligned mission objectives.
Position Summary
The Senior Software Engineer leads the design, development, integration, and optimization of data-driven software capabilities supporting the modernization of the Global Command and Control Systemโ€“Joint (GCCS-J). This role provides technical leadership across the full software lifecycle, ensuring scalable architectures, robust data workflows, and mission-aligned software solutions that enhance operational decision-making.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship โ€ข Lead engineering teams across multiple product areas. โ€ข Guide technical investigations and architectural decisions. โ€ข Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
Software Architecture & Design โ€ข Define scalable architectures for microservices, APIs, and data pipelines. โ€ข Develop logical and physical data models.
Data Engineering & Integration โ€ข Design and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and synchronization workflows. โ€ข Ensure data integrity, performance, and interoperability.
Software Development โ€ข Implement backend and frontend components using Java, JavaScript, and modern frameworks.
โ€ข Develop REST services and event-driven capabilities.
DevSecOps & Automation โ€ข Integrate software into CI/CD pipelines. โ€ข Support automated testing, containerization, and secure coding practices.
Agile Execution & Delivery โ€ข Lead Sprint planning, reviews, and backlog refinement. โ€ข Ensure Definition of Done and acceptance criteria compliance.

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related STEM field.
โ€ข 7+ years of software engineering experience.
โ€ข Strong experience with Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, and object-oriented design.
โ€ข Proficiency in REST services and event/messaging platforms (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, GraphQL, SSEs, etc.).
โ€ข Experience with SQL, NoSQL, geospatial, and key/object databases.
โ€ข Proficiency with JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, Angular, React).
โ€ข Experience designing and implementing software architectures.
โ€ข Familiarity with Linux/UNIX and containerized deployments.
โ€ข Strong communication and leadership skills.
โ€ข U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance. Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Experience with Spring Boot, Node.js, NPM, and modern IDEs.
โ€ข Experience writing Ansible plays and playbooks.
