Job description

Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) position involves working primarily in inpatient rehab and acute care settings. Most days, the time is allocated between these two areas. In acute care nursing units, the majority of work is focused on dysphagia and swallowing issues. The ability to perform a bedside swallow exam is essential. If a Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) is needed, a different therapist will conduct that assessment after the bedside evaluation. Candidates must demonstrate experience with bedside swallow evaluations and treatments. The position requires working every fifth weekend, covering both Saturday and Sunday. Travelers must comply with facility needs and may need to float within their scope. The daily census is approximately 50 patients, covering various diagnoses including dysphagia and communication disorders. Interdisciplinary support includes teams such as physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. Special procedures conducted in the unit include Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) for those trained.

Experience: 1 year License: Minnesota State License required, Pending License not accepted Certifications: BLS, CCC-SLP Must-Have: - Experience with bedside swallow evaluations and treatments required - Acute care experience highly preferred - Video fluoroscopy swallow evaluation experience preferred - Knowledge and skill set to perform a bedside swallow exam
