Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Controls Programmer to design, develop, program, and commission PLC-based control systems for material handling and automation projects. This position will work closely with customers, engineers, electricians, and project teams to ensure controls systems are designed and implemented according to project specifications.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, material handling equipment, and Rockwell Automation software.


Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with customers to understand project requirements, operational needs, and overall project objectives.
  • Design, develop, and program PLC control systems according to customer specifications.
  • Design and program HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Provide onsite commissioning and startup support for new PLC systems.
  • Work with onsite electricians to troubleshoot and provide guidance on controls components and system functionality.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and modify existing PLC programs to meet customer requirements.
  • Provide onsite support during implementation and testing of system modifications.
  • Train end users on system functionality and operation.
  • Develop and maintain PLC programs, system documentation, and related technical materials.
  • Create and assist with the development of user manuals.
  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, project management, customers, vendors, and job-site personnel to successfully complete projects.


Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in controls programming, material handling, automation, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and software fundamentals related to conveyors and material handling systems.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation software, including:
  • RSLogix 500
  • RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000
  • FactoryTalk View ME and SE
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and serial communications.
  • Experience with PC-based programming languages, Windows Server platforms, and virtual systems is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and controls documentation.


Work Requirements

  • Ability to work flexible shifts and weekends as project requirements dictate.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations and job sites.
  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods when required.
  • Reliable transportation to and from assigned work locations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Valid government-issued identification.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk long distances throughout manufacturing facilities, job sites, parking areas, and storage yards.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to hear spoken instructions, alarms, warning signals, and public address announcements.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, and steel- or composite-toe footwear.
  • Ability to safely work in industrial and manufacturing environments around electrical, mechanical, and material handling equipment.
