What is a weekend server?

Weekend servers are food and beverage service staff who primarily work during weekends in restaurants, cafes, or bars. Their main duties include greeting guests, taking orders, serving food and drinks, and ensuring a positive dining experience. Weekend servers are often scheduled to work during busy periods like Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays, when customer traffic is highest. These roles require strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

What does a weekend server do?

As a weekend server, your job is to serve food and drinks to each guest at your location, which is usually at a restaurant. Weekend roles are typically part-time jobs where you may act as a waiter to take each order, collect a tip after providing your services, manage the needs of each table, and fulfill any other tasks required during your shift. Some weekend servers work in other positions, such as serving food from behind a counter or traveling throughout a larger building to deliver food instead of remaining in a dining area. This job title refers exclusively to the food-oriented server position and should not be confused with weekend roles involving computer servers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend server, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Server, you need strong customer service skills, basic math abilities, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, order management tools, and sometimes food handler certifications are typically required. Excellent communication, multitasking, and a positive attitude help you stand out in this fast-paced, guest-facing role. These skills ensure efficient service, satisfied customers, and smooth restaurant operations during busy weekend shifts.

What are some common challenges weekend servers face and how can they be managed?

Weekend Servers often experience high customer volumes and fast-paced environments, especially during peak dining hours. Managing multiple tables, handling special requests, and maintaining a positive attitude under pressure are typical challenges. To succeed, it's important to stay organized, communicate effectively with kitchen staff and teammates, and prioritize tasks efficiently. Many restaurants offer training and encourage teamwork to help staff handle busy shifts and deliver excellent service.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Server – Party Fowl

About Us

Did you know Party Fowl is Nashville’s first full-service hot chicken restaurant? Here, hot chicken isn’t just a menu item — it’s an experience. We’re a contemporary, chef-driven Southern concept that brings energy, hospitality, and fun to every table. Sure, we can hang with the white tablecloth crowd, but we never forget how to serve up good old-fashioned chicken tenders.

Position Overview

We are looking for energetic, hospitality-focused team members who go beyond taking orders — we want servers who create unforgettable guest experiences and contribute to a high-energy, sales-driven environment.

As a Server, you’ll play a key role in delivering attentive service, upselling menu items, ensuring accurate orders, and maintaining a clean, welcoming dining space.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, attentive service and build rapport with guests.
  • Accurately take food and beverage orders and enter them into the POS system.
  • Demonstrate menu knowledge to answer questions and make recommendations (suggestive selling is expected).
  • Ensure guest satisfaction throughout their visit and resolve any service concerns promptly.
  • Deliver food and beverages efficiently and correctly.
  • Process guest payments accurately using the POS system.
  • Perform daily side duties including rolling silverware, stocking service areas, and light cleaning (sweeping, mopping).
  • Participate in team-based service and tip pooling (food runners, bartenders, greeters, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean and organized station in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Support kitchen and prep staff as needed during peak service times.

Requirements

  • Previous restaurant server experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to handle money and operate a point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Bring the energy! We’re called Party Fowl for a reason.

Compensation

  • Hourly wage plus tips.
  • Participates in a tip pooling system that includes support team members. Tipout is calculated based on individual sales and follows all federal and state labor regulations.

Why Join Us?

  • A fun, fast-paced, and team-oriented culture.
  • Opportunity to grow within a growing restaurant group.
  • Staff meals and employee discounts.
  • Be part of the first and best hot chicken concept in Nashville!

Equal Opportunity Employer

  • Party Fowl is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

    ABOUT THE COMPANY

NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN. BOOZY SLUSHIES. GOOD TIMES.

Party Fowl serves up hot chicken, boozy slushies, local brews, and southern hospitality in a setting that’s made for letting loose. With locations in the heart of Nashville, Donelson, and now inside Nashville International Airport (BNA), we’re all about celebrating the spirit of Music City—one bite, sip, and toast at a time. Our menu puts a bold spin on the classics, with heat levels ranging from southern-friendly to seriously unhinged (looking at you, Poultrygeist). Whether you’re here for brunch, the big game, or just a round with friends, you’ll find wall-to-wall TVs, full service, and a vibe that’s never boring. Now under new ownership, Party Fowl is expanding into a lifestyle brand rooted in good food, strong drinks, and unapologetic fun. We’re here to keep Nashville hot, one celebration at a time.
