Position: Operations Staff Support Officer (OSSO)

Employment Type: Full-time, 12 month employee

Responsible To: Deputy Commandant of Cadet Life

Goals of the Operations Office
Support Academy Academic, Cadet Life, Athletic and JROTC leadership programs, facilities, health care, and transportation. Meet the schoolโ€™s mission, vision and the needs of the cadets.

Job Purpose
To ensure Cadet Life operations are executed according to the published schedules in an accurate, safe, and timely manner. This includes sound cadet accountability of boarding and day students, locating and ensuring cadets are in class on time and accounted for, and inspecting cadets to ensure they are in the proper uniform. Enforce Academy policies and procedures as well as the Cadet Guidebook requirements. This is a senior role expected to collaborate closely with all staff members within the Operations Office and proactively seek opportunities to improve work processes. Supervise, set duty schedules, and ensure all weekend support officers are updated and performing duties in accordance with school policies.

Essential Job Results

  • Ensure Operation Support to the Academy Programs: Ensure all cadets are accounted for throughout the day. Locate cadets missing from class or scheduled activities. Manage accountability of day students in the morning and afternoon. Follow up with the health center to ensure cadets are taking needed medication. Inspect dorm rooms daily for cleanliness.
  • Ensure Safety of Cadets and Protection of the School Environment: Correct and counsel cadets on the spot and in private when needed. Report all violations of school policies and Cadet Guidebook rules. Report unsafe acts or hazardous areas. Monitor for intruders or unauthorized personnel. Check security cameras during non-classroom times and limit horseplay.
  • Maintain Staff, Faculty, Cadet and Patron Confidence and Protect Operations: Be firm, fair, and friendly with cadets. Communicate with patrons, cadets, and faculty as needed. Provide prompt responses to phone calls and inquiries. Ensure all cadets are present at formations and special events at scheduled times and locations.
  • Supervise Weekend Security Officers: Schedule duty days and times for weekend security officers. Supervise and ensure adherence to all policies and procedures. Verify accuracy of electronic log entries. Ensure radios, fencing, gates, and security systems are functional. Maintain accountability of all keys and equipment.
  • Non-Essential Job Functions: Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing other duties as required involving campus orderliness and assistance. Support day-to-day operations and assist the Operations Officer and Director of Safety and Security.

Desired Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; bachelorโ€™s degree in communications is desirable.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Relevant military experience or successful experience working with youth in a boarding environment.
  • Ability to work independently, create and follow assigned schedules/projects, complete routine and repetitive tasks.
  • Strong report writing and effective communication skills.
  • Approachable demeanor and ability to interact with a wide variety of people including the public, parents, children, faculty, and staff.
