Job description

Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated system of care that includes HCMC, a nationally recognized Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and acute care hospital, as well as a clinic system with primary care clinics located in Minneapolis and across Hennepin County. The comprehensive healthcare system includes a 473-bed academic medical center, a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center, and a network of clinics in the North Loop, Whittier, and East Lake Street neighborhoods of Minneapolis, and in the suburban communities of Brooklyn Park, Golden Valley, Richfield, and St. Anthony Village. Hennepin Healthcare has a large psychiatric program, home care, and operates a research institute, philanthropic foundation, and Hennepin EMS. We are currently seeking a Medical Scribe to join our team at Hennepin Healthcare in our Emergency Department and/or Inpatient Psychiatry Department. This is a 0.80 FTE position (64 hours per two week pay period - 32 hours/week required) and follows a rotating schedule that includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with the schedule released 2-4 weeks in advance. The pay for this position is $21/hour.

Additional information:
  • Must commit to at least 1 year within the program. Applicants unable to fulfill this requirement will not be considered
    • No seasonal, short-term, or temporary employment available
  • Must work in-person at our main hospital campus in downtown Minneapolis. No remote positions available

Responsibilities:
  • Accompany the provider into the exam room to document provider/patient interactions
  • Accurately documents history, physical examination, laboratory, medication, and radiology notes as verbalized by the patient and provider
  • Transcribes dictated information from the provider into the medical record

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED, plus two years of post-secondary education - or - an approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
  • Open work availability.
  • At least a Junior in college, preferably with coursework in medical transcription, medical terminology, human anatomy, and core sciences
  • Relatable experience working in healthcare or clinical environment
  • Experience using electronic health record system
  • Reliable, punctual candidates with interest in medicine and/or pre-professional health track
  • Applicants with prompt responsiveness and thorough communication skills

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to work closely with medical professionals during interactions with patients in a hospital or clinical setting
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to listen carefully and accurately transcribe verbal communications on a real-time basis
  • Strong keyboarding skills to facilitate the transcription of communications
  • Ability to work well in a critical environment and be detail oriented
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize work based on volume and deadlines
