About the Role

The primary role of a Science teacher is responsible for being effective in promoting scientific literacy, science teachers must be well prepared in their subject areas, have a firm understanding of the nature of science, and stay abreast of current technological advances affecting society. Science teachers must engage students in the science revolution by relating it to their lives

  • Planning and implementing class lessons that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards.

  • Planning and coordinating programs with the faculty and administration.

  • Providing ongoing student evaluation through regularly scheduled grade reporting and parent conferences.

  • Establishing and building great rapport with students to provide a great and exciting learning environment.

  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.

  • Actively participate in strategic long- and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students.

  • Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.

  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management.

  • Remain current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum.


Qualifications


  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in education or related field (required)

  • Two or more years of teaching experience in specific area of teaching and/or general area based on grade level (preferred)

  • Proven experience using all Microsoft Applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and Google Applications (Email/Drive)

  • Proven record demonstrating strong classroom management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Required to participate in professional development and instructional best practices

  • Required to work daily between the hours of 8:05 am - 3:45 pm Monday - Friday and some weekends

  • Proven commitment to provide an outstanding education for the students of Community Academies of New Orleans, Inc

  • Willing and able to carry out the mission and model the values of Community Academies of New Orleans


Physical Demands


  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday while providing instruction.

  • Regularly and frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a laptop or desktop computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, inside the classroom and school building while monitoring students productivity and behavior on a daily basis.

  • Occasionally reach with hands and arms and must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

  • Occasionally ascend and descend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
