Overview
Job Summary:
Balemaster is seeking to hire an experienced Horizontal Band Saw Operator cutting various metal parts for their facility located in Crown Point, Indiana. The Balemaster Saw Operator is responsible for the safe, effective and efficient operation of our sawing machines. This position takes place in an industrial manufacturing/production environment. The successful candidate will be able to set up, maintain and operate saws in order to cut a variety of metal materials to specification. They will be required to read tape measures and interpret technical drawings, select the correct blades and adjust the machine settings to ensure accurate and safe operations.
The Saw Operator will also be responsible for the upkeep of their equipment and for ensuring the safe storage and disposal of scrap material. Attention to detail and an excellent safety record are essential for this role.

Responsibilities
Job Purpose:
The purpose of a Saw Operator is to operate and maintain sawing machinery to cut and shape metal. This involves setting up and operating the saw machines, adjusting cutting speeds, making sure the saws are properly lubricated and maintained, and keeping accurate records of production. The Saw Operator is also responsible for inspecting finished products for accuracy and quality, and troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise. Other duties may include operating other machinery within the facility, such as grinders. The Saw Operator must be able to interpret technical drawings and use basic mathematics to calculate the dimensions of cuts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate a variety of saws to cut metal and other materials
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications
  • File, grind and smooth rough edges and surfaces
  • Read blueprints and job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions
  • Select and install saw blades and other attachments according to specifications
  • Maintain saws, checking and replacing worn blades, drive belts and other parts
  • Keep records of daily production
  • Examine finished work pieces for defects
  • Ability to read technical drawings
  • Experience in the operation of saws
  • Knowledge of safety procedure
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of safety requirements
  • Experience in operating saw machinery
  • Must be able to run an overhead crane
  • Must be able to drive a fork-truck

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift heavy metal materials at times.
  • Heavy industrial environment with mechanical activities requiring personal protective equipment.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The Saw Operator is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the Saw Operator may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The Saw Operator must be able to occasionally lift heavy equipment/materials at times. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus.
