Job description

Cardiovascular Surgery NP/PA

Columbus, Georgia

A growing Cardiovascular Surgery program in western Georgia is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its collaborative surgical team.

This role will work directly with a cardiovascular surgeon providing a combination of outpatient clinic care, inpatient rounding, and perioperative support, with the potential opportunity to First Assist in the operating room depending on experience and credentialing.

The position is based within a large regional medical center that serves as a referral hub for advanced cardiac care across southwest Georgia and eastern Alabama. The hospital operates as part of a nationally recognized faith-based healthcare system and is supported by a broader organization that manages specialty hospitals and healthcare facilities across the United States, offering strong clinical resources and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre- and post-operative assessments in clinic and hospital settings

  • Perform daily inpatient rounds and consultations with the cardiovascular surgeon

  • Assist in cardiothoracic procedures as First Assist (if credentialed)

  • Coordinate care with cardiology, anesthesia, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and post-operative care

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records

  • Participate in clinical meetings and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • PA or APRN licensure in Georgia

  • NCCPA certification (PA) or national APRN certification

  • BLS and ACLS required

  • Experience in cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgery preferred

  • First Assist certification or willingness to obtain preferred

  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, and organizational skills

Schedule

  • Full-time

  • Combination of clinic, hospital rounding, and possible OR time

  • Rotating weekends or call responsibilities may apply

Compensation

Competitive compensation aligned with MGMA benchmarks (~$138K)
