Job description

Summary

Provide nursing care to clinic patients under supervision of Clinic Nurse Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

  • Perform selected procedures and therapeutic treatments within his/her level of competencies according to policies and procedures.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Prepare, administer and record selected oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications.
  • Observe, record, and report to provider any significant change in the patient's condition associated with drugs, treatments, or any other disease process.
  • Document phone calls, messages, patient education and instruction accurately in the EMR following all protocols.
  • Ensure that clinic protocols are followed on all clinic patients at each visit (i.e. vital signs, diabetic foot care, etc.)
  • Responsible for ordering, receiving and handling supplies as needed.
  • Contact patients to provide information and advise as appropriate within scope of practice.
  • Perform required record-keeping for the Nebraska State Immunization Information System (NESIIS).
  • Ensure that sample medications are kept in a safe and secure environment.
  • Actively promote and engage in the Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and educate patients on self care and disease prevention.
  • Assist providers with procedures and exams as requested and within scope of practice.
  • Maintain tracking systems to ensure patient compliance with preventative care and health maintenance standards.
  • Maintain a professional environment.
  • Participate in committees and other groups at Saunders Medical Center as directed.
  • May serve as a preceptor for LPN and RN nursing students as approved by manager.
  • Participate in Accountable Care Organization (ACO), quality assurance and system wide improvement projects.
  • Perform all duties with legal limitations as properly authorized, delegated or assigned.
  • Practice the proper fire, safety and disaster procedures as set forth by SMC.
  • Participate in all quality, safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
  • Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times and report violations to the Privacy Officer.
  • Understand and comply with the requirements of the Saunders Medical Center’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all Saunders Medical Center-wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Saunders Medical Center policy and as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate personal traits of a high-level commitment, motivation and energy; team orientation; professionalism; trust; personal honesty and integrity; and a demonstration of placing others in a place of high value and treating them with dignity and respect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience

Licensed Nebraska RN

One year clinic experience desired

Certificates Licenses, Registrations

Current Nebraska RN license

Current Basic Life Support certification

Language Skills

Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions and possess positive skills in communication. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate at the level necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram or schedule form.
