About the Company

Hazen Research, Inc. is an independent industrial research and development (R&D) company specializing in the mining, chemical, energy, and environmental industries worldwide since 1961. Our 17-building, 12-acre campus in Golden, CO, houses multiple laboratory and pilot plant facilities to support our R&D work across multiple disciplines for across the globe. The facility is operated by a staff of well over 100 engineers, chemists, technicians, and support personnel.

About the Position

We are seeking applicants for experienced Research Technicians. The selected candidates will work within a multi-disciplinary team of technicians and engineers to build and operate R&D processes ranging in size from bench to pilot scale. The ideal candidates will have a high mechanical aptitude and be able to troubleshoot equipment and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate bench and pilot scale systems as part of an operating crew, maintain the process as directed, record process data when tasked, recognize process deviations, and help troubleshoot issues
  • Working with a variety of hazardous materials including minerals, compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, solvents, and other chemicals
  • Working in a variety of hazardous or industrial environments including high-temperature processes
  • Must be medically fit to wear a respirator
  • Additional requirements may include training to operate a forklift, fall protection, or other training relevant to the project work

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position working 40 hours and overtime when necessary
  • 8-hour day Monday to Friday
  • Sometimes longer shifts up to 12-hour days and/or nights and weekend work are required

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of relevant experience and ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems such as with rotameters, fans, and valves (desired for Entry-Level)
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with hand and power tools
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and Word)
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. on occasion

Desired (but not required) Skills/Experience

  • Basic knowledge of chemistry
  • Experience in the chemical, environmental, or mining industries
  • Experience with or knowledge of mineral separation techniques (flotation, gravity, magnetic, electrostatic, etc.)
  • Familiar with different types of process instruments (thermocouples, flow meters, rotameters, pressure indicators, pressure transducers, pH probes, etc.)
  • Be able to construct bench and pilot scale systems - Plumb gas and liquid lines - install pipe and/or tubing for process lines - install necessary equipment - calibrate and maintain equipment
