Job description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Psych - Behavioral Neurobiology, is in search of a Clinical Research Coordinator II to join their team. This position will primarily be responsible for oversight of a human circadian research protocol as part of an NHLBI-funded R01. The protocol occurs one to two weekends per month. Responsibilities will include scheduling research participants, managing research assistants, and overseeing data collection and analyses. On weeks where there isn't a weekend research protocol, contacting and screening research participants during the weekdays will be a secondary obligation.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.

  • To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.

  • To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:   $50,050- $ 81,330

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Bachelor's Degree - Psychology, biology, chemistry, or any biomedical science preferred.

  • Experience working with human clinical studies, particularly with respect to sleep/circadian rhythms; statistical analyses, particularly with R, would be extremely helpful. 

  • Statistical skills, including use of R, help with data cleaning and analyses.  Additional preferred skills: Psychology, biology, chemistry, or any biomedical science are preferred. Other disciplines would be considered.

  • Conducting the research protocol and deciding whether to allow participants to continue or discontinue the protocol. These types of decisions may be done with graduate students and/or lab PI.

Key Skills

  • Good people's skills, while a bit nebulous, is helpful given the nature of the work - both overseeing a complicated research protocol and supervising research assistants.

  • Ability to work weekends is critical since this research protocol occurs on the weekends.

  • Attention to detail is also critical, as protocol violations - even minor - negatively impact this study
