Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for providing direct patient care in a Level 1 Trauma Center while supporting nursing staff and collaborating with the healthcare team. Performs tasks within the paramedic scope of practice under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, primarily in the Emergency Department. Ensures professional interactions, maintains equipment, and communicates with the RN to review and carry out delegated care tasks. Promotes patient safety and contributes to efficient emergency care delivery.
Essential Functions
• Ensures safe transport and care of patients, recognizing and responding to emergencies and patient deterioration.
• Implements and interprets physiologic monitoring, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, and credentialed ACLS procedures within scope of practice.
• Provides and documents age-specific, culturally competent patient care, including elective and emergency procedures under RN/MD direction.
• Assists with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and activities of daily living according to established policies.
• Maintains compliance with infection control, HIPAA, safety standards, dress code, and all institutional policies.
• Utilizes information technology and communication systems to support patient care and departmental operations.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, participates in process improvement, and fosters teamwork and service excellence.
• Attends and participates in mandatory in-services, meetings, and ongoing competency and licensure requirements.
• Assists with orientation of new personnel, disaster management, and decontamination procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area
Experience Requirement
0-2 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures
CPR Certified, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Paramedic, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) Certified
