What is a weekend remote project manager?

Weekend Remote Project Managers are professionals who oversee and coordinate projects for organizations during weekends, working remotely rather than onsite. Their role involves planning, executing, and monitoring project progress, ensuring that objectives are met within deadlines and budgets. They communicate with team members, stakeholders, and clients primarily through digital tools, handling tasks, resolving issues, and maintaining project documentation. This position is ideal for those seeking flexible work schedules or supplemental weekend employment, and requires strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend remote project manager?

To thrive as a Weekend Remote Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, experience with remote collaboration, and a relevant degree or certification such as PMP or Agile Scrum Master. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, as well as communication platforms like Slack or Zoom, is essential. Exceptional time management, proactive communication, and problem-solving abilities help you excel in coordinating distributed teams outside standard business hours. These skills ensure that projects stay on track, stakeholders remain informed, and challenges are addressed efficiently despite the constraints of remote and weekend work.

How does a weekend remote project manager typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders across different time zones?

As a Weekend Remote Project Manager, you'll often coordinate projects with team members and stakeholders who may be working on different schedules or in various time zones. Effective collaboration relies on clear communication, utilizing digital tools like project management platforms, and setting regular check-ins or updates to track progress. You may need to schedule meetings outside of typical business hours and ensure that documentation is thorough so everyone stays informed. Building strong relationships and being proactive in addressing potential bottlenecks are key to success in this remote and often asynchronous environment.

Our work directly improves communities, protecting water quality, strengthening infrastructure, and supporting sustainable growth across our community. At CP Engineers, we don't just execute projects, we build careers. Remote work flexibility, competitive compensation and benefits, and a collaborative, people first culture have resulted in high employee satisfaction and retention and helped us win Best Places to Work awards three years in a row.

Position Overview

As a result of our continued strategic growth, we are seeking a Project Manager to join our highly respected water resources team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful infrastructure projects that directly impact public health and environmental sustainability. This role focuses on the management, design, permitting, and delivery of projects related to water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and collection/conveyance systems.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical proficiency with project management experience, client relationship skills, and regulatory knowledge, while providing coordination and oversight throughout all phases of project execution.

Compensation range: $120,000-$160,000 (commensurate with experience)

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead full project lifecycle delivery, including development of proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules; establish and maintain project controls to proactively manage scope, budget, schedule, and risk; monitor performance, allocate resources strategically, and drive accountability to achieve on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes.
  • Design & Documentation: Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for engineering deliverables, including reports, design drawings, specifications, permitting documents, and bid packages; ensure deliverables meet firm standards for technical excellence, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Permitting: Direct permitting strategy and execution, including preparation and review of applications and coordination with regulatory agencies; serve as a key point of contact with NJDEP and local authorities, proactively identifying and resolving regulatory challenges to maintain project momentum.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop multidisciplinary project teams, including assigning responsibilities, mentoring staff, and optimizing resource utilization; foster a high-performance environment focused on accountability, professional growth, and technical excellence.
  • Client Coordination: Serve as the primary client relationship manager throughout the project lifecycle. Maintain proactive communication, anticipate client needs, and resolve challenges effectively; strengthen client partnerships to drive repeat business and contribute to proposal development and pursuit strategy.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical guidance in the planning, design, and permitting of water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems; support complex problem-solving and guide teams toward practical, innovative engineering solutions.
  • Professional Engagement: Actively engage in professional organizations and industry forums, representing the firm and enhancing CP Engineers' visibility and reputation within the water resources market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field.
  • New Jersey Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in water/wastewater engineering with demonstrated project management responsibility, including scope, schedule, and budget oversight.
  • Experience managing client-facing projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact directly with clients and stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites, municipal meetings, and client locations as needed.

Benefits

  • Competitive 401(k) match.
  • Paid time off
  • Tuition, professional license, and association fee reimbursement.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Support for employee work/life balance.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
