Job description

Job Overview
The Trauma Informatics Specialist is responsible for the accurate collection, analysis, abstraction, maintenance and reporting of data for the trauma department in accordance with national and state regulatory and accrediting bodies. Utilizing strong analytical, cognitive and leadership skills, the Trauma Informatics Specialist analyzes, validates and reports on collected data for research, epidemiology, prevention initiatives and performance improvement. This position works in a matrix or service line environment and requires knowledge of hospital protocols and systems as well as excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Responsibilities
  • Identifies all patients meeting criteria for entry into the trauma registry database and maintains a daily tracking report in Excel.
  • Abstract and analyze medical data through all phases of patient care from injury scene through hospital discharge.
  • Accurately identifies and reports hospital events as defined by NTDS as well as other quality improvement issues.
  • Ensures timely, accurate data validation and preparation for submission to the MN Trauma Registry, MN TBI/SCI Registry, and TQIP for participating registries.
  • Compiles trauma data, reports and analyses necessary for triennial regulatory body site survey visits.

Required Qualifications
  • A.A./A.S. in healthcare related field OR Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • 2 years demonstrated experience in Trauma Registry
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding and injury severity scoring
  • Data management, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology
  • Completion of the American Trauma Society's Trauma Registry Course or ability to successfully complete within 1 Year
  • Completion of AIS15 course or ability to successfully complete within 1 Year

Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S./B.A. in HIMS or healthcare related field
  • 2 years demonstrated experience in Trauma Registry at a TQIP participating center
  • ICD-10 course within the past 5 years
  • Experience with Epic or other EMR
  • RHIT
  • CSTR
  • CAISS
