Residential Route Helper (Garbage Truck) - Fort Pierce, FL
$17.00-$18.00 per Hour Based on Experience | Full-Time

Waste Pro is seeking several dependable, hardworking individuals to join our team as Residential Route (Garbage Truck) Helpers. In this physically active, outdoor role, you will work alongside a Residential Truck Driver to collect residential trash, recycling, and yard waste along assigned routes. As a Residential Helper, you'll play a vital role in keeping our communities clean, safe, and beautiful while providing exceptional customer service to our residents. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying active, and being part of a team that provides an essential service every day.
Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Collects residential solid waste and places it into the rear of a rear-load garbage truck along assigned routes. Collection may be performed manually or by pushing residential carts (toters) to the truck tipper.
  • Lifts and carry trash bags, bulk items, and waste containers to the truck for disposal.
  • Safely mounts and dismounts the rear step of the collection vehicle while servicing assigned routes.
  • Operates the truck's packing mechanism to compact waste safely and efficiently.
  • Provides safe, courteous, and Distinguishably Different customer service to residents and customers while representing Waste Pro in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude toward the company, customers, coworkers, and municipal partners.
  • Ensures residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste are collected and disposed of properly. Collection may require retrieving containers from behind residences when necessary.
  • Answer basic questions from residents and direct them to Customer Service or the appropriate government agency for additional assistance.
  • Complies with all ANSI (American National Standards Institute), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and Waste Pro safety policies, including the Waste Pro Absolute Guidelines.
  • Assist the Driver with safely backing the collection vehicle by providing ground guidance when required.
  • Cleans behind the compactor blade using a shovel and hoe when directed.
  • Washes and cleans the hopper and collection vehicle at the end of each shift or as needed.
  • Immediately reports any safety concerns, vehicle issues, or customer service matters to the Driver and Supervisor.
  • Performs manual cleanup of scattered refuse, including cleaning areas around accidental waste spills and ensuring customer containers are returned to their proper location.
  • May be required to work during emergency situations, including storms or other natural disasters.
  • Assists with other collection routes or operational assignments as needed to complete daily service requirements.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Employees in this job classification must attend and participate in corporation sponsored training courses as assigned.
  • Employees in this job classification are responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Waste Pro
  • Any additional job duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Work Environment: Works in a variety of environment conditions, including wide temperature and weather variations including heat, cold, snow, rain, wind; noise and vibrations, fumes, odors and dust.
