What is a Weekend RBT?

A Weekend RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified paraprofessional who works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, typically on weekends. Their primary role is to implement behavior intervention plans and teach skills to individuals with autism or other developmental disorders. Weekend RBTs may work in clients' homes, clinics, or community settings, providing flexible support outside of traditional weekday hours.

What are some unique challenges and opportunities for growth in a Weekend RBT role?

As a Weekend RBT, you'll often work with clients and families who have limited weekday availability, which means effective communication and flexibility are key. While weekend shifts may involve fewer team members onsite, you'll still collaborate closely with supervising BCBA professionals and maintain regular documentation. This schedule can offer unique opportunities for hands-on experience, autonomy, and building strong client relationships, which are valuable for career advancement. Additionally, successful RBTs often find that weekend experience positions them well for future leadership or full-time roles within ABA organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend RBT, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend RBT, you need a solid understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the RBT certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Familiarity with data collection tools, ABA software, and experience following treatment plans is essential. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability make someone stand out when working directly with clients and their families. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering consistent, effective behavioral interventions and supporting client progress during weekend sessions.

What is the difference between Weekend Rbt vs Part-Time Rbt?

Do weekend RBTs get weekends off?

Weekend RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians) often work on weekends as part of their schedule, but whether they get weekends off depends on the employer and specific shift arrangements. Many RBTs work weekends if required by their clients or program, and some positions may offer weekday shifts with weekends off. It varies based on the job setting and staffing needs.

About The Role

Are you a passionate, experienced RBT ready to take the next step in your career? We're looking for a dedicated Assistant RBT Trainer to help train and mentor new RBTs as they begin their journey in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

As an Assistant RBT Trainer at Key Autism Services, you'll deliver hands-on training and coaching based on ABA principles, support our training program, and continue to work directly with your own clients. You'll play a critical role in shaping confident, competent, and compassionate RBTsโ€”while growing your own clinical and leadership skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead in-person training sessions, including overlap/modeling and final competency evaluations
  • Deliver clear, constructive feedback to trainees and help guide them through our established training curriculum
  • Identify and recommend additional training when needed to help RBTs succeed
  • Continue providing direct ABA therapy to your assigned clients while supporting new staff
  • Collect and maintain accurate behavior and skill acquisition data during sessions
  • Work closely with families, BCBAs, and other providers to support holistic client care
  • Ensure sessions are documented and signed within 1 business day and all communications are HIPAA-compliant

RBT Requirements

  • Certified RBT with at least 1 year of ABA field experience
  • Recommended by your supervising BCBA(s)
  • A natural mentor with a passion for teaching and supporting others
  • A reliable, motivated, and upbeat professional who thrives in a collaborative setting
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication, with a keen eye for detail and a heart for service

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (higher education is a plus!)
  • Reliable transportation to and from sessions
  • Ability to implement treatment plans as outlined by a BCBA
  • Comfortable with physical activity (may include sitting on the floor, kneeling, standing, or lifting up to 50 lbs.)
  • Current RBT certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of field experience as an RBT
  • At least 3 months of employment with Key Autism Services, with consistently strong performance reviews and high treatment integrity scores
  • Recommendation from the BCBA(s) on current cases

About Key Autism Services

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Key Autism provides services to children and adults throughout the states of Massachusetts, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Illinois, and Texas. Services include programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related conditions. We have been serving families since 2014. At Key we work as compassionate partners with individuals, families, case managers and other professionals to provide the level of support needed to improve the lives of the clients we serve. At Key Autism Services, all the autism treatment services we provide are guided by a common philosophy about the role of the family in a child's development. We strive to equip both the children and their families with necessary skills for strong, satisfying relationships with one another, because we know that learning happens best when it happens in the context of playful, reciprocal interactions with life partners. We believe family is the foundation for a child's development. Family is the ever-present guiding force in a child's life from the first breath through all the growing-up years. Family doesn't close for the holidays, go on vacation or call it quits at five o'clock. Family remains a persistent presence on a day-in, day-out basis, through all the seasons of the year, through all the years of childhood.
