This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center, 2125 Charlie Hall Blvd Charleston, SC 29414.
Under close supervision of the Team Leader, the counselor answers incoming crisis calls and provides telephonic crisis intervention services to include text, chat, screening and consultation in a culturally compete manner for the 988 Suicide Lifeline.
Responsibilities for the Part Time Counselor II:- Provide a qualify response in a culturally competent manner to callers of the 988 Lifeline.
- Identify concerns with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use and refers to the appropriate resources. Utilize assessment information and community resources to provide information and/or linkage and referral to services.
- Knowledgeable of and accountable for documentation expectations.
- Demonstrate recognition of the importance of collaboration and teamwork within the Center of the community.
- Operate in an efficient and organized manner.
- Retain overall responsibility for meeting Quality Assurance standards.
- Comply with all OMH/CDMHC policies and protocols, applicable Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, Cultural Competence, an CARF policies, procedures and regulations, and all federal and State laws as well as attend all trainings classified as mandatory by Federal and State regulations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements- A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
Additional Requirements - This is an essential position and may require some after-hours work to help fill in when staff are out and/or position could be designed for after-hours or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in the crisis continuum of care a plus
Additional CommentsPost hire, employees must: - Have working knowledge of mental health principles and practices; experience working and/or education in the mental health field
- Have good listening skills, working knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies in the community.
- The ability to multi-task; remain calm in a crisis; good writing skills.
- The ability to screen, assess and consult with callers.
