Weekend Rbt information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend RBT, you need a solid understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the RBT certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Familiarity with data collection tools, ABA software, and experience following treatment plans is essential. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability make someone stand out when working directly with clients and their families. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering consistent, effective behavioral interventions and supporting client progress during weekend sessions.

Both serve similar industries and require comparable credentials, offering flexible schedules to accommodate clients' needs.

What is a Weekend RBT?

A Weekend RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified paraprofessional who works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, typically on weekends. Their primary role is to implement behavior intervention plans and teach skills to individuals with autism or other developmental disorders. Weekend RBTs may work in clients' homes, clinics, or community settings, providing flexible support outside of traditional weekday hours.

What are some unique challenges and opportunities for growth in a Weekend RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) role?

As a Weekend RBT, you'll often work with clients and families who have limited weekday availability, which means effective communication and flexibility are key. While weekend shifts may involve fewer team members onsite, you'll still collaborate closely with supervising BCBA professionals and maintain regular documentation. This schedule can offer unique opportunities for hands-on experience, autonomy, and building strong client relationships, which are valuable for career advancement. Additionally, successful RBTs often find that weekend experience positions them well for future leadership or full-time roles within ABA organizations.

  • Attend all required training including Mirabelle Care mandatory training and any BCBA assigned clinical training
  • Represent Mirabelle Care professionally in all client, family, and school interactions
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current, active RBT certification issued by the BACB in good standing; newly hired staff without RBT must obtain certification within 90 days of hire
  • Completion of BACB 40-hour RBT training (effective January 2026: must meet updated 3rd Edition TCO requirements)
  • Experience working with children or individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, or related conditions preferred
  • No active disciplinary sanctions on RBT certification
  • Reliable transportation for home-based and community service delivery as applicable
  • Clearance of all required background checks and OIG/SAM.gov exclusion screens

Supervision Requirement

RBTs must receive a minimum of 5% of their total monthly direct service hours in supervision from a qualified BCBA or BCaBA. Effective January 1, 2026, only BCBAs and BCaBAs may supervise RBTs per BACB policy. Noncertified RBT supervisors are no longer permitted.
