Job description

The WNC Nature Center is seeking a reliable volunteer to lend a hand in our beloved, century-old barn! If you enjoy meaningful, hands-on work, rustic charm, and the constant serenade of goats, weโ€™d love to have you join us. We have weekly shift openings on Friday and Saturday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

For consistency and training purposes, you should be able to commit to one of the weekly shifts (same day and time) for at least 6 months.

Tasks Include:

  • Cleaning stalls
  • Prepping barn animal diets (grain and produce)
  • Stuffing hay bags and filling water buckets
  • Helping the animals out into the farmyard area for the day
  • Ensuring that guests refrain from bringing food and drink into the barn and do not feed the animals

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Volunteers are subject to adverse environmental conditions
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors and around insects
