How much do weekend psychotherapist jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for weekend psychotherapist in the United States is $43.54, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $33.65 and $48.08 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some unique challenges faced by weekend psychotherapists, and how can they effectively manage their caseload?

Weekend psychotherapists often encounter clients who have limited availability during the week, which can lead to higher demand and a condensed caseload on weekends. This schedule may require strong time management and self-care skills to prevent burnout, as well as clear boundaries around availability. Additionally, weekend therapists may have fewer opportunities for in-person team collaboration, so staying connected with colleagues through digital communication and regular supervision is important for support and professional growth.

Who gets paid more, lpc or lcsw?

LCSWs (Licensed Clinical Social Workers) generally earn higher salaries than LPCs (Licensed Professional Counselors) due to their broader scope of practice, clinical responsibilities, and often required supervision hours. Salary differences can vary based on location, experience, and work setting, but LCSWs tend to have higher earning potential in mental health roles.

What are weekend psychotherapists?

Weekend psychotherapists are licensed mental health professionals who provide therapy sessions outside of traditional weekday business hours, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays. They help clients address psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and stress, making mental health care more accessible for those with busy schedules during the week. Weekend psychotherapists may work in private practices, clinics, or offer teletherapy sessions, catering to clients who require flexible appointment times.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Psychotherapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Psychotherapist, you need a master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work, appropriate state licensure, and strong clinical assessment skills. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, telehealth platforms, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities is often required. Exceptional listening, empathy, and boundary-setting abilities help build trust and support clients effectively, especially during weekend crises. These skills ensure quality mental health care, client safety, and consistent therapeutic outcomes during non-traditional hours.

How much can you make as a psychotherapist?

Psychotherapists' salaries vary based on experience, location, and work setting, but the median annual wage in the mental health field is around $47,000 to $50,000. Experienced therapists with specialized skills or private practices can earn significantly more, often exceeding $70,000 annually. Many also supplement income through additional certifications or offering specialized services.

How to make extra money as a psychotherapist?

Psychotherapists can increase their income by offering private practice sessions outside of their regular employment, conducting workshops or group therapy, or providing online counseling services. Building a strong client base, obtaining relevant certifications, and utilizing telehealth platforms can help expand earning opportunities.

Job description

Are you interested in working within a private psychotherapy practice that focuses on helping children, adolescents and adults overcome depression, anxiety, and trauma? If so this job opportunity may be just right for you.

Part-Time Psychotherapist
Are you interested in working within a private psychotherapy practice that focuses on helping children, adolescents and adults overcome depression, anxiety, and trauma? If so this job opportunity may be just right for you.

We are interviewing therapists (unlicensed or licensed, CSW, MFT, or psychologists) who will keep a caseload of at least 12 clients per week seen over the course of two days. The position requires that the therapist be able to independently perform intake assessments, develop treatment plans, make collateral contacts as appropriate, manage psychological crises when they arise, and maintain thorough documentation.

Therapy is primarily individual, although in the case of working with minors it would also include conjoint meetings with parents. It is essential that the candidate have experience working with adults and/or adolescents and children.

Additionally, having some experience working with people of faith is preferred as many of the clients who come to our office are referred from churches.

If you are particularly ambitious and feel that a weekend not working is a weekend wasted, then Saturdays are also available (but not required). ** If unlicensed, the hourly pay is $50.00/hour and increases to $90.00/hour once license is secured.

To apply submit the following three items: a current resume, a cover letter indicating your interest in this position, and a list of three references.

This job is ideal for those who are determined to make a significant difference in the lives of others, serious about expanding their clinical skills, and willing to take on challenging cases most often involving high functioning and strongly motivated individuals. We focus on three areas: anxiety, depression, and trauma in adults, teens, and children.

We do not attempt to be all things to all people and consequently refer elsewhere those people who are best served by colleagues with specialty skills more in line with some other presenting problem (e.g., eating disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder). But if you enjoy making a difference in the lives of adults, teens, and children who present with anxiety, depression, or trauma, this may be a good fit for you. Send resumes and letters of interest to Forrest Talley.
