In this role, you will inspire, educate, and empower individuals to embrace healthier lifestyles through engaging wellness and sports programs. Your leadership will play a key role in enhancing the overall well-being of the Oneida People and future generations, fostering a strong, healthy community for years to come.
What does a Wellness & Sports Manager do?
  • Plans and implements all sports, wellness, and recreational activities at the Community Center.
  • Responsible for ensuring safety in the wellness and sports departments, managing risks, and enforcing player sportsmanship.
  • Offers a variety of classes and programs that prioritize movement to improve physical and mental health to meet the needs and wants of the Oneida Nation community.
  • Develops and delivers wellness equipment orientations for adults, teens and youth.
  • Coordinates, schedules and delivers experiences designed to provide knowledge, skills, and tools to help people live healthier lifestyles through lectures, workshops, and group discussions.
  • Establishes, maintains and oversees the weekly group exercise class schedule.
  • Instructs children in movement activities, recreational games, and sport skills as part of the afterschool and summer programs.
  • Creates and maintains a yearly calendar of sport seasons and recreational leagues for children, youth and adults.
  • Produce high-quality, affordable sports programming for all ages.
  • Promotes and recruits for wellness and sports programs.
  • Assures staff and patron compliance with program, sport, and facility use policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the proper cleaning and disinfecting of all wellness, sports and fitness equipment. Manages cleaning schedules and task assignments for all wellness and sport areas.
  • In collaboration with the property maintenance team, directs the scheduling, management, maintenance, and repair of wellness floor equipment.
  • Submits monthly program and sports participation reports to Senior Programs Manager.
  • Administers all aspects the wellness and sports programming, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and develops all assigned staff and creates a positive work environment for the team; manages staff performance and creates opportunities for staff development.
  • Supervises and coordinates work schedules for all assigned staff to ensure adequate staff coverage during programs, sports, events and daily operations.
  • Builds a strong reputation for the Center as a positive, inclusive hub for the Member community.
  • Works collaboratively with GP&S teams, Communications, the Oneida Indian Nation Health Center, the Children & Elders Center and other Member support departments and programs to integrate Community Center programming for the Oneida Member community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
To be successful as a Wellness & Sports Manager, you'll need:
  • Bachelor's Degree in wellness, kinesiology, exercise physiology, recreation management or related field preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in recreation management, fitness supervisor or a related field.
  • Must be certified (or become certified) in basic First Aid, CPR, AED.
  • Fitness industry certifications a plus.
  • Previous experience working with children of various ages, preferably in a recreational, educational, or afterschool setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development and the ability to adapt activities to meet the needs of children at different developmental stages.
  • Organized coaching experience with credentials preferred.
  • Ability to lead programs in absence of staff to include, sports, fitness and wellness activities.
  • Demonstrates mature judgment, appropriate role modeling and clear standards of behavior.
  • Knowledge of fitness trends and fitness equipment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and to provide leadership and operational oversight on evening and weekend hours, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
