Job Summary:
The Coordinator of Student Development and Strategic Retention is responsible for
designing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive student-centered initiatives that
promote engagement, persistence, and completion. Grounded in student development
theory and holistic learning frameworks, this role intentionally fosters students’
intellectual, personal, social, and professional growth. The Coordinator integrates
theory-to-practice approaches with data-informed strategies and cross-campus
collaboration to support the whole student experience, ensuring students are not only
retained but also developed as confident, capable, and purpose-driven individuals.
The Coordinator serves as a key connector across Academic Affairs and Student Affairs,
ensuring that students—particularly those identified as at-risk—receive proactive,
intentional, and coordinated support throughout their collegiate experience. Through a
developmental lens, this role emphasizes meaning-making, identity development,
leadership capacity, and sense of belonging, while creating structured opportunities for
students to engage, reflect, and thrive.
Additionally, the Coordinator provides strategic oversight and developmental advising
for Student Government Association (SGA), Royal Court, and registered student
organizations, ensuring alignment with institutional values, policies, and leadership
standards. This includes advising and supporting student leaders in clubs and
organizations, as well as providing guidance and training for faculty/staff advisors to
strengthen organizational effectiveness. The Coordinator facilitates leadership
development initiatives, governance education, and accountability structures that
promote ethical leadership, student voice, and active campus engagement, while
reinforcing the connection between involvement, student development, and retention
outcomes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Student Engagement & Development
• Design, implement, and assess comprehensive student engagement initiatives
that foster belonging, leadership, and holistic student development.
• Plan and implement campus-wide programs, monthly events, and co-curricular
experiences aligned with the university’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
• Coordinate and support New Student Orientation, including program design,
logistics, and marketing.
• Create intentional pathways for student involvement that connect engagement
to retention and completion outcomes.
• Assess student participation and learning outcomes; develop annual reports with
recommendations for continuous improvement.
Leadership Development & Student Organization Advising
• Provide primary advising and oversight for the Student Government Association
(SGA), Royal Court, and registered student organizations, ensuring alignment
with institutional policies and leadership standards.
• Serve as a liaison between faculty/staff advisors and student organizations to
strengthen communication, accountability, and effectiveness.
• Develop and facilitate monthly leadership training sessions, workshops, and
leadership retreats for student leaders.
• Support student organizations in program planning, event coordination, and
leadership transitions (elections, onboarding, officer development).
• Mentor student leaders through intentional coaching to support success in their
roles and personal development.
• Monitor leadership eligibility and engagement expectations, reinforcing
accountability and student success.
Strategic Retention & Student Success
• Implement engagement-driven strategies that support student persistence and
completion.
• Collaborate with campus partners to identify and support students at risk of
disengagement through programming and outreach.
• Assist in connecting student involvement experiences to academic success,
career readiness, and personal growth.
Marketing, Communication & Outreach
• Lead the promotion of student programs and events through social media,
digital platforms, and campus communications.
• Maintain and update student engagement platforms and social media content,
ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Develop and distribute communications related to student programs, leadership
opportunities, and campus involvement.
Campus Collaboration & Institutional Support
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to enhance student

• Provide support for student-led programs and campus-wide initiatives.

Administrative & Operational Responsibilities

engagement and programming.
• Perform administrative duties including data entry, reporting, and general office

• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as required for campus
events.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Division of Student Affairs.
