Job description

Full-time faculty members of Paine College are professional educators who have the responsibility for fulfilling the College’s mission, vision, ethical and spiritual values, and Strategic Plan. This is done in a manner that is consistent with the College’s Biblical Foundation Statement, the Christian Philosophy of Education, and other college policies.

Faculty members are classified according to the ranks of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. They are directly responsible to their respective Department Chair.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-time faculty members are expected to deliver effective instruction; facilitate, access, and document student learning; and manage the classroom environment. Full-time faculty should engage in careful preparation of course materials and provide appropriate feedback to students on course assignments. A full-time teaching load consists of 15 (or 16) semester credits of undergraduate courses which may include evening, weekend, hybrid, and/or online courses (if available).

The courses taught are determined by the faculty member’s credentials (i.e., training and competence) and needs of the department. Courses are assigned by the Department Chair in consultation with the faculty member. (Candidates for faculty positions should have prior teaching experience at the college level. Other responsibilities include advising students, mentoring students, engaging in scholarly activity, serving on college committees, supervising undergraduate student research .projects, service to the College and community, and performing other duties as assigned. Full-time faculty members are also expected to attend Departmental and Faculty meetings as scheduled.

Faculty members must sign a Certification Statement indicating that they have read, understand, and will respect the Biblical Foundation Statement and the Christian Philosophy of Education Statement of Paine College.

POSITION CRITERIA

A faculty member will have an earned Ph.D. (or terminal degree) in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Under some circumstances, a person considered ABD or with a Master’s degree may be accepted.
