Position Overview
As an Emergency Veterinarian at VEC, you will diagnose, stabilize, and treat critically ill and injured small animal patients. You'll make fast, informed decisions, manage urgent surgical cases, and provide compassionate communication to pet owners during difficult times. You'll be supported by skilled technicians and staff who share your dedication to emergency medicine.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate evaluation, stabilization, and treatment for emergency cases

  • Perform emergency surgeries and critical medical procedures

  • Diagnose acute illnesses and injuries using advanced diagnostic tools

  • Prescribe medications and establish evidence-based treatment plans

  • Deliver clear, empathetic communication to clients in high-stress situations

  • Maintain thorough, accurate medical records in all cases

  • Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to deliver efficient, high-quality care


What We're Looking For

  • Education & Licensure:

    • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD)

    • Current license to practice in Florida

    • DEA license and ability to dispense/prescribe controlled substances

  • Experience:

    • Previous veterinary practice experience required (emergency or specialty preferred)

  • Skills & Traits:

    • Excellent emergency diagnostic, surgical, and decision-making skills

    • Ability to remain composed under pressure in a fast-paced environment

    • Strong multitasking and organizational skills

    • Professional, compassionate, and client-focused demeanor

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled


Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted (assist for 50-200 lbs.)

  • Stand/walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours)

  • Safely restrain animals in stressful conditions

  • Exposure to animal secretions, bites/scratches, contagious diseases, anesthesia, and radiation
